Cognoscient launched as a desktop study suite. That will always be its foundation. But the long-term vision is something larger: a content-agnostic educational platform where the app, the web, the repository, and the marketplace all reinforce each other.

Everything described in this section is pre-development planning — honest about what it is. These features are not vaporware; they are a documented, prioritized roadmap from a founder who builds what he plans. The Kickstarter is the mechanism that funds the path from here to there.

Near-term priorities.

Windows Desktop App

Commercially ready. Quiz engine, flashcard engine, Stats Tracking, Constructor, Creator, Coach — all live on Windows.

Near-Ready

macOS Build

The macOS port requires minimal additional work. Cognoscient is built in Electron — cross-platform support is structural, not a rewrite. macOS is the next platform out the door.

Planned

Web App — Any Platform, No Install

The web app brings Cognoscient's full feature set to any browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox. This is the path to ChromeOS and the institutional market. No download, no install friction, instant access anywhere. Subscription-based access with tiered plans for individuals and institutions.

Planned

ChromeOS & Android

After the web app, dedicated ChromeOS and Android builds follow naturally. The web app covers the functionality; native builds add platform integration and offline access.

The Content Repository & Marketplace.

The repository transforms Cognoscient from a study application into an educational content ecosystem. The app is the engine; the repository is the fuel.

What it is

A centralized marketplace where educators, institutions, and publishers can upload, sell, or freely share question bank content compatible with Cognoscient. Users browse, preview, and study — all inside the same platform they already use.

Users who load content from the repository don't just have a tool — they have a library. That dramatically increases the value of the platform and gives every user a reason to stay.

Why it matters

The biggest friction in using a study tool is building the content. The repository eliminates that friction for learners and creates a real monetization channel for educators who have already done the work.

A teacher who builds an excellent quiz set for her specialty can share or sell it — and use what she earns toward content she needs for everything else. The platform rewards contribution.

Creator Badges — The Trust Layer

Content quality matters. The badge system verifies creators before their content earns visibility, rewarding quality and accountability at every tier. Every piece of content displays its creator's badge so users always know the source.

Official Publisher

Major educational publishers. Institutional credibility, curriculum alignment, and premium standing.

Official Author

Verified content from the author of the source material — “This quiz was created by the author of this textbook.”

Verified Institution

Schools, universities, training organizations, and government bodies publishing official study material.

Verified Educator

Credentialed teachers and professors. Content created by someone who professionally teaches the subject.

Community Creator

Active contributor in good standing. Verified account, moderated content, established presence.

Creator Economics

Creators earn from their contributions — through direct sales, a share of subscription revenue based on usage, and a points system redeemable for platform credits or content purchases. Creators control whether their content enters the subscription pool or remains purchase-only. The platform is built to reward the people who fill it.

The .cogx Format

Marketplace content is distributed as .cogx — the encrypted variant of the open .cogn format. Same schema, with a licensing layer that protects publisher and creator content within authenticated Cognoscient sessions.

The .cogn format spec will be published as a documented open standard, enabling LMS integrations, publisher workflows, and third-party tools to generate compatible files natively.

AI Credit System.

AI features — Creator and live Coach — run on a prepaid credit system. Credits are provider-agnostic: one system regardless of which AI backend is in use, with tiered bundles so heavier users get better value.

How it works

Credits are purchased in bundles and consumed per action. When you buy a bundle, Cognoscient purchases the corresponding AI capacity immediately — no speculative inventory, no surprise charges. Credits don't expire as long as your account stays active. Pricing and bundle tiers will be published when the web app launches.

Built for every level of education.

Higher Education

Online universities and competency-based programs are a natural fit. Students are self-directed by definition, the curriculum is heavy on objective assessment, and there's no classroom structure to fall back on. Cognoscient fills exactly that gap.

K–12

The educator-to-student distribution pipeline makes adoption straightforward: a teacher builds or purchases content with a Full Edition license and distributes it to her students. Institutional volume discounts make district-level adoption practical.

Professional Certification

The original use case. Any domain, any format, any question bank. Whether it's a cybersecurity certification, a professional licensure exam, or a specialized industry credential — if it's objective assessment, Cognoscient handles it.

Publishers & Content Creators

The repository gives publishers a ready-made distribution channel for official companion content — reaching students already studying with their material, with zero infrastructure investment required. Independent educators earn from the content they've already built.

The Kickstarter funds the roadmap.
